Baby Swim
With Spring in the air and Summer just around the corner, I wanted to share a mommy resource, Baby Splash at Hubbard Family Swim! I really believe Baby swim contributed to the success of our recent beach vacation to Ko’ Olina, Hawaii and Summer’s love of the water + ocean. Summer was so comfortable in the ocean when we were in Hawaii. My husband and I were amazed! She loved playing in the sand, letting the waves slowly roll up and splashing in the gentle waves. When Baby Summer was a newborn, we barely left the house but I was watching TV one day when I heard about Baby Splash class at Hubbard Family Swim school, its free for babies under 6 months old. We started when she was only 3 months old and I was seriously not prepared for the cuteness and bonding between the two of us! I highly recommend this Baby Splash class at Hubbard Family Swim. We had a blast!
Like most parents, I was nervous and did not know what to expect but I knew I wanted to get Baby Summer comfortable in the water as soon as possible so I took a dive and signed up online through chat. It was so easy and I immediately felt welcome. All of the employees were so kind and sweet. Summer's teacher, Gabrielle P., was so sweet and immediately put me at ease when Summer and I got into the water at our first class a few minutes late and Summer was crying and freaking out like I had never seen before. She waited until Summer calmed down a little bit and came over to me privately and told me that most babies if not all react that way and assured me that all of the other parents had similar experiences on their first day. She also gave me some helpful advice for helping make Baby Summer more comfortable in the water, like not to bounce her while in the water (like you would to comfort a baby outside of the water) because it can be over stimulating and to keep the baby low and close in the water. I immediately noticed a difference in Summer's level of comfort in the water at home during bath time after our first couple classes. For the first time since birth, she started to enjoy baths which was a total game changer. It changed the way we interacted and allowed us to have fun in our everyday routine. I cannot explain how scary it is to bathe a newborn baby. Baby Splash class helped both of us get more comfortable with bath time. I seriously loved this class and am not sponsored but I cannot recommend something like this enough. So if you're curious and thinking about joining a baby class, I would definitely give it a try or look into one in your area.
Water safety is so important and it starts with getting your baby more comfortable in water which is what they teach you at Hubbard Family Swim. They have 3 locations in Phoenix, Peoria, and Mesa. We went to the Mesa location and I loved it. It was clean and the water was so gentle + warm, prefect for little babes! The class size is small but not too small there are only 9 parents and babies per class. Also side note, both parents can get in with the baby which was important to my husband and I at first but then we learned it was easier with just one of us in the pool at a time. Still nice to have the option though! I loved this class so much I am definitely going to sign up Baby Summer for the next level of class. Oh by the way, they have the cutest names for the different swimming levels like: Little Snapper, Blow Fish, Goldfish, Jelly Fish, Octopus and Lobster. Summer even got a cute little gold ribbon on her first day, so cute + perfect for her memory box!
Signing up was easy, I did it all online through the chat feature on their website. This was SO nice because Summer was and still is, a very clingy baby that pretty much only sleeps while Mommy is holding her. I had a hard time doing much of anything those first few months, let alone talk on the phone to sign up for something! Being able to sign up online was everything. The Baby Splash class is free, there's a one time joining fee of $25 but it is well worth it. You can start as young as 8 weeks and stay in the same class for free until baby is 6 months old. It's a parent and baby class so you get in the water with your baby but it is seriously so much fun I thought my heart might explode every time we went. The Baby Splash class focuses on water safety skills, water acclimation, child bonding, and comfort and balance in the water and is once per week. We looked forward to it every week and I was so sad when Summer turned 6 months. The next level class is the Little Snapper and at the time I didn't think Summer was ready for it because they go under water but I am really looking forward to it now especially because we recently moved to a neighborhood with a community center and pool. During the Summer months I plan on spending a lot of time at the pool with her. I would love to hear your experiences and suggestions for Baby Bonding classes like this one.
